HOW TO INITIATE A CONVERSATION ABOUT JESUS.

HOW TO INITIATE A CONVERSATION ABOUT JESUS.

A person sharing their faith with others is often one of the most challenging aspects of being a Christian I have seen within the church. Although it may seem scary at first to share your faith, over time it gets easier. It is also important to recognize that fear, is often a key inhibitor to why one doesn’t share their faith for instance: it can lead to concerns like rejection, mockery, and not knowing how to approach the subject.

However, growth in this area is only possible when you confront this fear instead of avoiding it. Remember that running from challenges allows them to hold power over you, making it progressively harder to overcome. This avoidance can cause you to become accustomed to withholding your faith, ultimately limiting your spiritual growth.

A parallel can be drawn between this situation and the biblical story of Goliath and the army of Israel. The Israelites continuously held back in the face of Goliath as he taunted the army of Israel due to a lack of confidence in their identity in God and in God's power. It took an individual who had cultivated a strong relationship with God, held onto testimonies of His works, and understood who his God was that he was able to fearlessly confront the giant that brought fear to everyone else.

Your responsibility is not to retreat when you feel a prompting by the Holy Spirit to share your faith, but to remember your identity in Christ and who your God is. A significant insight to remember is that your flesh will bring fear but the Holy Spirit will bring boldness and courage. . Recognizing this distinction can help you confront your fears, and be strengthened and encouraged in the Lord.

While multiple approaches exist to initiate a conversation and to share the Gospel with someone it is not just limited to these three. However, I have personally found success with these three ways:

 1. **Getting Personal:** Begin by asking about someone's day, displaying genuine interest in their lives before diving into the Gospel. Employ the "inside out" method, wherein you enter their world you do this by asking questions, learning about them, and eventually inquire about their faith. Thus, opening the door for the Gospel to be brought up and for you to bring them into your world where you share about the kingdom of God and who Jesus is.

 2. **Sharing Testimonies:** Seamlessly incorporate your own testimony into a conversation. For instance, I would mention the near-death experience my wife and I were in due to a drunk driver hitting us as a segue to discuss the unpredictability of life and the role God played in us living through it and physically healing us in the midst of it.

 3. **Word of Wisdom:** This approach involves seeking insight from the Holy Spirit about a person's past or current situation. By attentively listening to the Holy Spirit and applying the gift of wisdom, you can initiate conversations based on the insights you receive from the Holy Spirit. This strategy requires sensitivity, obedience, and faith, ultimately being attentive to God's voice to spark conversation.

While it may seem easier said than done, one thing I can say is witnessing gets easier the more you do it just like praying just becomes easier the more you pray. Overall, overcoming the fear or concerns that you may think or feel when it comes to sharing your faith requires embracing discomfort (Which is okay because Jesus said I leave you the Holy Spirit who will be your comforter), facing your fears (where the Bible actually mentions 365 times do not fear), and ultimately cultivating a strong foundation in God(having a genuine relationship). By understanding the source of fear and drawing from strategies like personal connection, sharing testimonies, and relying on words of knowledge from the Holy Spirit, you can confidently engage in conversations that bring spiritual growth and fulfill what Jesus had commanded us all to do which was preach the Gospel to every creature.
